High school boys basketball: Quick start propels Stow past Nordonia
Stow picked up its fourth consecutive boys basketball win, 52-34 Friday night at Nordonia.
The Bulldogs (4-5, 2-3 Suburban League National Conference) were led by senior guard Cale Marconi's game-high 13 points. Junior guard Marvin Campbell added 11 points, and junior forward Desmond Copeland had nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Damon Wallace led Nordonia (6-10, 3-4) with eight points.
For a large chunk of the night, the Knights struggled to knock down shots against Stow's 2-3 zone.
In the first quarter Nordonia shot just 2 of 11 from the field. Stow, meanwhile, opened with a 7-of-9 mark, including 6-of-7 from 3. The Bulldogs at one point went on a 13-0 run and led 24-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Nordonia outscored Stow 15-11 in the second quarter, trimming the lead to 16 at the break. But coming out of the locker room, the Knights once again struggled to make shots and went just 1 of 12 from the field as Stow built a 44-21 lead going into the final quarter.
As a team, Stow shot 18 of 42 from the floor, including a 7-of-15 mark from deep. Nordonia shot 12 of 47 from the field and narrowly won the rebounding battle 28-26. Stow had 12 turnovers and forced Nordonia to commit 20.
