The Tallmadge boys golf team finished eighth with a score of 358 at the 13-team Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Invitational Monday at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton.

Gates Mills Gilmour Academy won the competition with a 306. Hudson took second with a 308 and Worthington Christian placed third with a 318.

Gimour’s Liam Ottaway was the medalist with a 71. The Blue Devils’ Darin Hudak finished in a tie for second with a 73 despite two double bogeys during the early stages of his round.

Also contributing to Tallmadge’s team score were Caleb Fairhurst (90), Ty Kester (93) and Kasen Frisbee (102).

“It was a great day for some golf at Jack Nicklaus' signature Glenmoor Country Club course,” Blue Devils head coach Jon Shomo said. “What a fantastic course design. It is quite the challenge from the blue tees.

“Darin was 1-under over his final 12 holes. Overall, he hit 10-of-14 fairways in regulation, 10-of-18 greens and had 28 putts on the tricky putting surfaces

“Sophomores Caleb Fairhurst and Ty Kester, who made his first 2020 start, continue to improve. Neither had ever been to Glenmoor, which makes their rounds all the more impressive.

“Junior Kasen Frisbee struggled with the flat stick (38 putts), but he finished with two pars on 16 and 17, which were his last two holes of the day in the shotgun format. Senior Christian Rutan's day began with a disastrous first hole [No. 15] which threw him for a loop. He will bounce back.”
