State Route 8 southbound traffic between Graham Road and state Route 303 has been split into two separate lanes as reconstruction begins on the final stage of the $58.6 million project. The traffic pattern changes went into effect Saturday, Feb. 27.

Ohio Department of Transportation Akron spokesperson Ray Marsh said the goal is to complete pavement replacement — running through Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Hudson and Boston Heights — by the end of this construction season in November. The entire project is scheduled to be finished by July 2022.

Average traffic along that stretch of highway ranges from 58,000 to 47,500 vehicles daily.

During construction, the left lane will cross over onto Route 8 northbound, while the right lane will use the Route 8 southbound median lane. Motorists who want to exit Route 8 southbound at Graham Road, Seasons Road, Steels Corners Road. or Route 303 need to remain in the right lane.

Also, the following ramps are closed:

  • The ramp from Route 8 southbound to Steels Corners Road will be closed through late April. The detour will be Route 8 southbound to Graham Road to Wyoga Lake Road to Steels Corners Road
  • The ramp from Steels Corners Road to Route 8 southbound will be closed through late April. The detour will be Steels Corners Road to Wyoga Lake Road to Graham Road to Route 8 southbound.

"We'll tear up all of that pavement and put down a full new layer of asphalt," Marsh said. "So once this construction season ends for 2021, all lanes will be done, and next year, we'll have to go over certain spots for final asphalt."
