A 7-year-old child was fatally struck Saturday while riding a bicycle in downtown Hudson.

Authorities are releasing few details about the incident while the crash involving a vehicle and the child remains under investigation.

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on West Streetsboro Street, a block west of state Route 91. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Sunday that the child died. No details were available beyond the age of the child.

Hudson police are completing a crash reconstruction investigation to understand what happened.

Hudson police referred the Beacon Journal to city Communications Manager Jody Roberts, who said: “A car hit the child. I believe he or she was on the bicycle.”

Roberts posted on the city’s Facebook page Saturday to let the public know that the section of West Streetsboro Street would be closed for a few hours due to the accident.
