TALLMADGE —  The case of a Cleveland man charged with felony kidnapping and assault in connection with an allegation that he held a woman against her will in a Brittain Circle apartment for three days was sent to a Summit County grand jury Thursday morning.

Traci Cirullo, bailiff for Stow Municipal Court Judge Lisa Coates, said the case of Yolonzo A. Gibson, 28, was sent to the county via the court's direct indictment program. Gibson is charged with first-degree felony kidnapping and second-degree felony assault in connection with the incident.

Police say that at about 8 p.m. Oct. 8, they responded to a report of a domestic incident at the apartment. Police said a witness told them that a male had stomped on a female’s head and taken her into the apartment. After officers received no response from the apartment, they forced their way in, arrested Gibson and removed the 24-year-old Cleveland woman from the apartment.

According to a complaint police filed against Gibson, the woman was taken to Akron City Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

According to court records, Gibson entered felony no pleas to those charges at his Oct. 9 arraignment. He was being held in Summit County Jail on a 10% of $500,000 bond on Thursday.

His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
