An 18-year-old man who died in a crash between a tanker truck and car has been identified.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Jared Marcum, 18, of Plain Township in Stark County.

Authorities said Marcum was involved in a crash with a tanker truck at about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday on state Route 8 North between Tallmadge and Howe avenues.

According to a joint press release from the city, police and fire departments, both vehicles caught fire. The blaze was fueled by gas from the tanker truck’s gas tank and the gas it was hauling.

The driver of the tanker truck did not sustain any serious injuries, according to the news release.

The crash and ensuing fire caused both the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway to close, and for homes and businesses nearby to be evacuated.

Authorities said run off from fighting the fire made its way into a storm sewer, which eventually discharged into the Cuyahoga RIver, causing a small fire.

Beacon Journal Partner News 5 Cleveland reported that the repairs on Route 8 North have been made, and the highway is reopen to traffic.
