New Cuyahoga Falls City Council member will be selected

Appointee will replace Drew Reilly, who resigned last month

The Summit County Democratic Party Central Committee will select a replacement for former Councilor Drew Reilly, who resigned, effective July 29 because he moved out of the city.

CUYAHOGA FALLS — A new city council member will be selected in the upcoming week to replace former Councilor Drew Reilly.

The Summit County Democratic Party’s Central Committee for the city’s Ward 1 will host a meeting to appoint a new council member on Monday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the High Bridge Glens Park, 1817 Front St.

The meeting will take place outdoors and attendees should wear a mask.

Reilly announced his resignation from the legislative body, effective July 29. Reilly said he and his young family are moving to Stow.

The new member would serve for the remainder of the term, which expires Dec. 31, 2021. To retain the seat beyond the end of 2021, the appointee would have to be elected to the post in the November 2021 election.

Council is now on its summer recess. Its next scheduled meeting is Sept. 14.
