Good Day in Hudson host Frank Youngwerth presents the show's 2020 Citizen of the Year award to Hudson Community Television Programming Manager Barbara Breedon VanBlarcum. Youngwerth surprised VanBlarcum with the honor during the taping of the 20th anniversary program of Good Day in Hudson.

HUDSON — A longtime member of the Hudson Community Television (HCTV) staff was surprised with a special honor during a taping of the 20th anniversary show for Good Day in Hudson.

Good Day in Hudson host Frank Youngwerth gave HCTV Programming Manager Barbara Breedon VanBlarcum with the 2020 Good Day in Hudson Citizen of the Year award during a taping of a segment of the program on Tuesday.

“By far, the most valuable player at Hudson Community Television is Barb VanBlarcum,” said Youngwerth, who noted VanBlarcum has worked with HCTV throughout the history of the Good Day in Hudson prorgam.

VanBlarcum said she “was totally floored. … Thank you so much. … This is incredible. I’m really touched and honored.”

Youngwerth congratulated VanBlarcum as he handed the plaque to her as they conversed on the set of Good Day in Hudson.

“Of all the awards I’ve given out, that one may be the most deserving,” Youngwerth remarked.

VanBlarcum in turn thanked Youngwerth for the “thousands of hours” he’s given to HCTV.

“It’s a real gift to the community,” said VanBlarcum.

After the taping, Youngwerth praised VanBlarcum for being a “hard worker,” and a great parent. Youngwerth noted he’s been happy to serve as an “honorary grandfather” to VanBlarcum’s son, Miles, who is now 24. Both of Miles’ grandfathers passed away before he was born.

“He’s as much a grandson of mine as my four grandchildren are,” said Youngwerth. “We were very close.”

He added he once told VanBlarcum she would’ve been “a great daughter to us,” and noted it was nice to work with someone he got along with so well personally.

VanBlarcum said she was “honored” and “surprised” to win the award. She added she was “grateful for all that Frank’s provided to the community.through Hudson Community Television.”

The segment where VanBlarcum received the award can be seen on the Good Day in Hudson anniversary program that will first air on Aug. 3 at 8 p.m. on HCTV. It will air several more times throughout the month of August.
