Voters will consider renewing two Stow-Munroe Falls school levies in November
STOW – Voters could see renewals of two school levies on the November ballot.
Both are renewal emergency levies. The $4.6 million levy is for five years and the $6.5 million levy is for 10 years.
Treasurer Trevor Gummere said they are renewals and homeowners should not see an increase in taxes. The total of $11.1 million annually from both levies are for operations of the schools, which covers general funds of teacher salaries, benefits, utilities and student materials among other expenses.
The first step in the process is for the school board to pass a resolution of necessity for each levy.
The Stow-Munroe Falls School Board passed a resolution of necessity on the $6.5 million emergency tax levy on June 22. The board will have a virtual special meeting on July 13 at 5 p.m. to vote on the resolution of necessity for the $4.6 million emergency levy and to vote on the resolution of intent to proceed with the $6.5 million emergency levy. The board will need to pass a resolution of intent for the $4.6 million emergency levy at a future meeting.
Gummere sends the resolutions of necessity to the Summit County auditor with instructions to calculate and certify to the board the annual levy expressed in dollar and cents for each $100 of valuation as well as in mills for each $1 valuation throughout the life of the levy.
The next step is a resolution of intent to proceed for each of the levies, which includes the ballot language. After passage by the school board, the levies are submitted to the Summit County Board of Elections by Aug. 5 to appear on November’s ballot.
