Northfield Center Trustees increase license fee $5

STAFF REPORT

After a second public hearing took place, at which nobody spoke, trustees at a June 22 meeting approved increasing the permissive motor vehicle license registration fee by $5 to $25. The increase would add about $36,000 (from an estimated 7,000 registrations) to the $20,000 currently received.

Of the current fees, about 30% goes to the township and 70% to Summit County. The township would receive 100% of the additional $5 for a total of about $56,000.

Permissive fees revenue is used by taxing districts for planning, constructing, improving, maintaining and repairing public roads and for maintaining and repairing bridges.

At the first public hearing, Township Administrator Steve Wright said three residents emailed comments about the increase. Two of them opposed it, citing the fact that many people are out of work because of the COVID-19 pandemic, while one favored it.
