Hudson junior Mackenzie DeWitt recently made a verbal commitment to continue her academic and swimming careers at The Ohio State University in Columbus, according to swimswam.com’s Anne Lepesant.
"I am beyond excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at The Ohio State University," DeWitt said. "Thank you to my family, friends and coaches for their endless support through this whole process.
"I chose OSU for the outstanding athletic and academic opportunities it offers me. I’m honored to become a part of this extraordinary team, family and program! Go Bucks."
DeWitt is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She swims year-round for Hudson Explorers Aquatics Team and specializes mainly in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly.
DeWitt placed fifth in the 50 freestyle at the 2020 Division I state competition last month. She also placed seventh in the 100 butterfly.
DeWitt also swam a split of 24.59 seconds in the 100 butterfly leg of the seventh-place 200 medley relay and a split of 23.01 seconds on the third-place 200 freestyle relay team.
DeWitt competed at the 2019 Winter Juniors East in the 50 free (23.86), 100 freestyle (52.92), 100 backstroke (57.88) and 100 butterfly (56.88).
She earned a Summer Juniors’ cut in the long-course meters 50-meter freestyle at the Cleveland sectionals last summer and also competed in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke at Summer Junior Nationals.
