Tallmadge High School is planning to establish a scholarship fund for graduating softball players in memory of the late John Shinosky.
Mr. Shinosky was the scorekeeper and statistician for the Blue Devils softball team when Don Duffy was the team’s head coach.
Mr. Shinosky, who passed away last year, was an advocate for all of Tallmadge’s sports programs, particularly the softball team.
He was a friend to many of the parents of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams, along with their kids.
Mr. Shinosky, the owner of John’s Cookies in Tallmadge, also attended a huge number of graduation parties over the years. He regularly brought his cookies to the City of Tallmadge Farmers Market since its inception 14 years ago.
Mr. Shinosky’s homemade cookies were a tradition at all the sports banquets at Tallmadge High School, as well.
Donations to the scholarship fund are tax deductible and can be made out to Tallmadge City Schools with a note referring to the John Shinosky scholarship.
Donations can be mailed to Maria Futules 310 S. Munroe Road, Tallmadge, 44278. The deadline for donations is April 30.
