Tallmadge resident Austin Pownall won a sectional title last Saturday.
Pownall, a junior on the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy wrestling team, captured the 145-pound championship at Northwest High School in Canal Fulton.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class advanced to a district competition, which is scheduled for Friday (3 p.m.) and Saturday (9:30 a.m.) at Alliance High School.
Pownall earned a 6-4 victory over Navarre Fairless’ Max Kirby in the final. Pownall pinned Norton’s Cory Beddow in 2 minutes, 23 seconds, stuck Cloverleaf’s Cameron Arthur in 49 seconds and pinned Lodi Cloverleaf’s Colby Simon in 1:02 to reach the final.
"He’s so darn consistent," Royals head coach Dave Bergen said of Pownall. "He has been on a roll lately."
