Hudson resident Matt Williams won a sectional title last Saturday.
Williams, a senior on the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy wrestling team, triumphed at 132 pounds at Northwest High School in Canal Fulton.
The four wrestlers in each weight class advanced to a district tournament, which is scheduled for Friday (3 p.m.) and Saturday (9:30 a.m.) at Alliance High School.
Williams, an All-Ohioan in 2019, got some payback to claim his championship. He faced Louisville’s Davin Rhoads, who defeated Williams three times this winter. This time, Williams came out on top with a 7-4 victory.
"There’s a likelihood they are going to see each other two more times this year," Royals head coach Dave Bergen said. "This is a good win for Matt."
Prior to his title match, Williams pinned Lodi Cloverleaf’s Cade Cass in the semifinals (2 minutes, 11 seconds).
