Aurora graduate Jarrod Brezovec, a junior on the John Carroll University wrestling team in University Heights, recently earned his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Championships.
Brezovec was the runner-up in the 141-pound weight division at the Central Regional Championships Saturday at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan.
Brezovec lost to 2019 133-pound national champion Jordin James of the University of Mount Union (Alliance). Trailing 4-1 in the second period, Brezovec was forced to default due to injury.
Brezovec reached the semifinals after earning a technical fall over Andrew Castaneda of Olivet (Michigan) College and then pinned Nathaniel McClanahan of Mount St. Joseph (Cincinnati) University in the quarterfinals.
In his semifinal match, Brezovec earned a 7-2 win over second-seeded Brendan Ladd of Alma (Michigan) College.
John Carroll placed fifth with 100.5 points. Baldwin Wallace (Berea) University won the 18-team competition with 154 points.
Mount Union was the runner-up (146) and Wabash (Indiana) College (107) and Ohio Northern (Ada) University (107) finished third and fourth, respectively.
The 2020 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships are scheduled to take place March 13 and 14 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
