The Hudson boys bowling team fell less than 50 pins short of qualifying for the Division I district tournament.

The Explorers finished fifth with a score of 3,688 at a sectional tournament Saturday at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood. Kent Roosevelt easily won the 13-team tournament with a score of 4,492. Also advancing were Warren G. Harding (3,849) and Nordonia (3,732).

The Hudson girls team placed seventh with 2,848 pins. Boardman won the 10-team competition with a score of 3,484. Warren Howland (3,122) and Roosevelt (3,070) also qualified for district play.

Although their teams fell short, two Explorers advanced to the district competition. They are seniors Logan Loeffler and Ariana Ellis.

Loeffler finished sixth out of 76 bowlers with a 609 series. He rolled games of 196, 244 and 171, respectively. Ellis placed seventh out of 58 bowlers with a 516 series (162, 165 and 189).

Loeffler is scheduled to bowl Feb. 22 and Ellis is set to bowl Feb. 23. The competition is scheduled to begin at noon both days at Stonehedge Entertainment in Akron.

Freshman Brock Miller was next for the boys with a 14th-place 556 series (208, 141 and 207). Also competing for the Explorers were junior Mason Schmidt (20th, 159, 219 and 162), freshman Zach Ream (50th, 184 and 189) and sophomore Java Berger (64th, 165).

Senior Katie Titmas was the next Hudson girl as she rolled a 20th-place 430 series (117, 167 and 146).

Rounding out the rest of the scores for the Explorer girls were sophomore Mary Ramsey (24th, 158, 113 and 143), junior Adriana Darden (30th, 124, 114 and 160), senior Natalie Gilles (48th, 96 and 88) and junior Maddie Long (54th, 128).
