Aurora residents Mia Telerico and Alex Wintering, who are members of the Walsh Jesuit swimming and diving teams, advanced to the Division I district competition Saturday.

That became official after their performances at the Akron sectional meet at the University of Akron’s Ocasek Natatorium.

Telerico advanced with a seventh-place time of 1 minute, 2.44 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly and a ninth-place swim in the 100 backstroke (1:04.77). She also was a part of the 400 freestyle relay team that placed fourth (3:50.32) and the 200 medley relay team that finished fifth (1:55.68).

Wintering finished eighth in the 200 freestyle (1:49.99) and ninth in the 100 freestyle (50.85) to advance. He also was a member of the second-place 400 freestyle relay team (3:18.35) and the sixth-place 200 freestyle relay team (1:32.45).

Telerico and Wintering are scheduled to compete at a district meet Saturday at Cleveland State University’s Busbey Natatorium. Swimming is set to begin at noon.
