Still working to improve, a young Twinsburg bowling program competed at the deep Suburban League Post Season Tournament.
Finishing ninth overall, the Twinsburg boys had some opportunities at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood Saturday.
"It was a rough day on the lanes for both Twinsburg teams," said veteran head coach Anthony Byrd.
The girls’ squad finished the tournament in 11th place in a strong field of teams.
Pacing the Lady Tigers was sophomore Emily Vannoy, who posted a 419 series and senior Cassie Burgess, who had a 416 series.
"The girls really struggled when the team came to the baker games portion of the tournament," said Byrd.
Both Burgess and Vannoy have loads of experience for the Tigers, but the rest of the cast is fairly new.
"We had a hard time rolling marks in consecutive frames and we can’t do that facing the type of competition we face in the Suburban League let alone any varsity match."
Returning senior standout Will Faini propelled the boys squad in Oakwood.
"The boys were led by Will with a 569 series," said the coach.
Faini finished 23rd overall individually for the Tigers.
Freshman Jaylen Bogarty also contributed for improving Twinsburg.
"Jaylen continues to improve rolling a 505 series as he continues to learn the game and competes," said Byrd.
"The boys team struggled to get any pin carry for strikes and missed a lot of single pin spares (26 for the tournament)," lamented the coach.
Many of the Tiger bowlers competed in their first ever post season league tournament.
"We got frustrated when we rolled a good ball that hit pocket but left a 7 or 10 pin still standing. Then we lost focus on the second ball missing the spare which we routinely make."
Byrd is also prepping his club for the Division I sectional tournament at Roseland Lanes Saturday at 11 a.m.
Besides individual qualifiers, the top three teams qualify to districts at Stonehedge Lanes in Akron Feb. 22 at noon.
There will be 12 girls teams and 13 in the boys’ lanes at Roseland.
This bracket includes a host of counties with Austintown Fitch, Boardman, Canfield, Warren Harding, Warren Howland, Hudson, Niles McKinley, Nordonia, Ravenna, Kent Roosevelt, Stow-Munroe Falls, and Streetsboro.
