The Aurora ice hockey team lost a close battle to Solon 4-3 Saturday.
The Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League White South Division match took place at The Pond Ice Rink in Chagrin Falls.
Freshman Will Genovese opened the scoring for the Greenmen less than two minutes into the game, but the Comets responded a minute later to knot the game 1-1 after the first period.
The score remained the same until Aurora sophomore Nathan Funk scored with four minutes left in the second period.
Once again, though, Solon found a quick answer, scoring just 15 seconds later and the game headed into the final period tied 2-2.
The quick trading of goals struck again in the third period, as the Comets scored with four minutes remaining to take the lead before Greenmen freshman Zane Martin knotted the score 30 seconds later.
It remained a tight, back-and-forth final minutes until Solon forward Anthony Nasca scored a power-play goal with just 15 seconds left to grab the victory.
Senior Patrick Murray added two assists for Aurora. Senior Jack McElwee, junior Cameron Mullin and sophomore Mike Mancine each added one assist.
Nolan Sullivan made 29 saves In net for the Greenmen, which fell to 5-4 in the division and 16-11 overall.
Michael Nagy made 21 saves in net for the Comets, who improved to 7-3 in the White South Division and 10-11-1 overall.
With the loss, Aurora secured a third-place finish in the final White South standings.
