The Aurora girls swimming and diving team finished fifth with 159 points at the Akron Division I sectional meet Saturday at the University of Akron’s Ocasek Natatorium.

Hudson easily won the 16-team competition with 535 points and Akron Firestone was the runner-up with 370 points. Rounding out the top four were Brecksville-Broadview Heights (273) and Stow-Munroe Falls (171).

"We faced some of the hardest competitors we have in our division," Greenmen first-year head coach Sarah Gellott said. "The ladies held their own, though, setting personal-best times in almost every race and even breaking two records."

Several Aurora swimmers advanced to the district competition, which is scheduled to take place this Saturday at Cleveland State University’s Busbey Natatorium. Swimming is set to begin at noon.

Alayna Brooker qualified in four events for the Greenmen. She also set two school records that she previously had.

Brooker placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 1 minute, 6.48 seconds and eighth in the 200 individual medley (school-record 2:15.83).

Brooker also joined Mackenzie Roy, Maeve Russell and Elizabeth Barto on the fourth-place 200 freestyle relay team (1:44.66) and Molly Russell, Maeve Russell and Barto on the sixth-place 200 medley relay team (1:56.44).

Maeve Russell punched her ticket to Cleveland in the 200 IM, as well. She finished 13th in 2:28.08. Barto qualified in the 50 freestyle with a 13th-place clocking of 26.59 seconds.

The Greenmen had two swimmers advance in the 100 backstroke. They are Gabby Elsas (14th, 1:07.85) and Kyleigh Roche (16th, 1:09.5).

Aurora also qualified in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Elsas, Jane Puzder, Annalise Bender and Annabelle Zamary placed seventh in 4:01.24.
