The host Hudson wrestling team improved to 6-2 on the season after cruising past Suburban League crossover rival Tallmadge 65-12 Thursday at Ray "Buck" Hyser Gymnasium.

The Explorers won five matches by forfeit and five matches by pinfall.

Earning pins for Hudson were Michael Johnston at 132 (1 minute, 7 seconds), Gavin Wervey at 145 (3:15), Aiden McStay at 160 (2:52), Nick Jackson at 170 (13 seconds) and Garrett O’Connell at heavyweight (50 seconds).

Hudson’s other victory came from Will Davis, who earned a 19-3 technical fall at 138 pounds.

The Explorers fell just short at 195 pounds as Brendan Demuynck lost an 8-6 decision to the Blue Devils Jesse Kanatzar, who is one of the top Division II wrestlers in his weight class.

"Kanatzar caught Demuynck on his back in the second period to pick up three near-fall points," Hudson head coach Joe Caniglia said. "That proved to be the difference. It was a good match with two good competitors and at this point of the season, those matches are important.

"We talked about being aggressive and getting to our offense quickly. Johnston, Davis, Wervey, McStay, Jackson, O’Connell and Demuynck all scored the first takedown. I thought we scored well from all three positions."
