It has been an up-and-down season for the Hudson ice hockey team thus far.

On Sunday, the Explorers picked up what might be their biggest win of the season.

Hudson earned a 3-2 victory over four-time state champion Shaker Heights at Shaker Heights Thornton Park. With the win, the Explorers improved to 10-9-1.

Trailing 1-0 after the first period, Hudson tied the match when Sully Clark scored a power-play goal off an assist from Luke Karnofel.

The Explorers promptly took control from there. Karnofel made it 2-1 when he found the net and then added another assist on Clark’s second goal of the game early in the third period.

The Red Raiders’ Mark Sauerland scored to cut Hudson’s lead to 3-2 with a little less than 10 minutes left, but the Explorers’ defense, particularly goaltender Nick Tomasulo, shut the door the rest of the way.

Tomasulo made 15 of his 33 saves in the final 15 minutes. Tyler Lencewicz also scored Shaker.
