The Hudson gymnastics team made a stellar 2019-20 debut Friday at Gymnastics World of Twinsburg.

The Explorers finished second at a seven-team meet with 139.9 points. Brecksville-Broadview Heights, the defending 16-time state champion, easily won the competition with 145 points and North Royalton placed third with 139.35 points.

Sydney DePompei, a state qualifier last season, led Hudson with a sixth-place finish in the all-around competition. She finished with a score of 35.15 points. The Bees took the top three scores and four of the top six in the all-around standings.

DePompei was the runner-up in the uneven parallel bars. She earned a score of 9 from the judges. DePompei added a fifth-place score of 9.05 on the floor exercise.

Julia Petty, a two-time state qualifier, also shined for the Explorers. She placed sixth on the bars (8.8) and ninth on the balance beam (8.65). She also finished in a tie for 10th place on vault (8.9).

Hudson’s other returning state qualifier scored some valuable points, as well. Alyssa Bezdek finished in a tie for first on the beam (9.25) and eighth on the floor (8.85).

Lindsey Havens also fared well for the Explorers. She placed eighth on the beam (8.7) and ninth on the bars (8.55).
