Twenty-eight days is a long time.

For the Aurora boys basketball team, it seemed like an eternity.

Fortunately for the Greenmen, their four weeks of frustration has come to an end.

Aurora is finally back in the winner’s circle.

The host Greenmen ended a five-game losing streak after defeating Mayfiled 74-70 Saturday.

With the victory, Aurora improved to 2-5. The Greenmen’s previous win took place Nov. 30 when they defeated Suburban League crossover rival Stow-Munroe Falls in both teams’ season opener.

The Greenmen didn’t make it particularly easy on themselves. Despite a dazzling first eight minutes, Aurora’s offensive fizzled in the second quarter.

The Greenmen raced out to a 30-9 first-period lead and then saw their huge advantage disappear after scoring just nine points in the second quarter. The Wildcats scored 25 points in the period and trailed 39-34 at halftime.

However, Aurora’s offense got a jolt in the second half en route to a much-needed win.

A total of 10 players scored for the Greenmen. Gabe Elsawy led the way with 16 points and Lenny Feckner and Ethan Hays each had 14 points for Aurora.
