The Aurora ice hockey team finished 1-2 at the Avon Lake Holiday Invitational Tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday at Serpentini Arena Winterhurst in Lakewood.

The Greenmen concluded their stay with a commanding 7-0 victory over Nordonia Saturday. Aurora took a 4-0 lead in the first period and didn’t look back.

Sophomore Mike Mancine led the way for Aurora (10-5) with a goal and three assists. Junior Cameron Mullin had two goals and an assist, as well.

Seniors Maxx Goldston and Patrick Murray each scored twice. Sophomore Nathan Funk had two assists and freshman Will Genovese contributed one assist.

Junior goaltender Nolan Sullivan stopped all 17 shots by the Knights for his second shutout of the season. Tommy Lippincott made 26 saves for Nordonia, which fell to 5-7-1 overall.

The Greenmen lost to Avon 2-1 Saturday morning. Senior Jack McElwee got Aurora on the board in the first period off assists from Goldston and Genovese.

The Eagles (7-9) responded in the second period with goals from Colin Barrett and Ian Dargoi to take the lead.

Sullivan made 31 saves and Ben Boka made 10 saves for Avon.

On Friday, the Greenmen lost to host Avon Lake 7-0. The Shoremen scored the lone goal in the first period on a power play and added two more goals in the second period before putting matters to rest in the third.

Tommy Kacmarcik led the way for Avon Lake (13-5) with two goals and two assists.

Sullivan made 30 saves and Shoreman goalie Dillon Aslaksen turned aside all 25 Aurora shots.

Through 15 games, Mullin leads the Greenmen with 14 goals and 31 points, respectively. Mancine has contributed 24 points.
