Competing in the loaded 16th annual Canton Christmas Invitational gave the Twinsburg boys and girls swimming and diving teams an opportunity to face top notch talent in a big-meet setting.

Head coach Kirtis Huelsman saw his youthful Tiger squads have some impressive performances at the meet, held at Canton’s C.T. Branin Natatorium Saturday.

Some of the top performances turned in were by the program’s veteran athletes while the Tigers’ youth continues to make strides.

Twinsburg’s relays in both girls and boys action continues to make measured improvements.

District qualifier Evan Bartel had some strong efforts.

Bartel finished 13th in the 500 free competition as the senior touched in 5 minutes, and 10.33 seconds.

In the 200 free race, Bartel finished 19th with a time of 1:51.29.

In girls’ action, Madison Zelenka shined in the tough 100 backstroke race.

The experienced Zelenka was timed at 1:11.81 as the senior placed 35th overall in Canton.

Zelenka is a district qualifier in the backstroke for the Tigers.

Senior Eddy Efraim also posted a solid mark in the 50 free competition as he was clocked at 25.93 seconds.

In the 1-meter diving competition, senior Max Rodin placed 19th overall with a mark of 207.15.

Rodin is also a district qualifier from a year ago.

Twinsburg will compete and host the Suburban League Diving Championships Jan. 2. Aurora is the official host as action begins at 4 p.m.

The Tigers will also travel to Cuyahoga Falls Jan. 3 at 6:15 p.m.

Wadsworth will host the Suburban League swimming championships at the University of Akron Jan. 4 at 8 a.m.

Other seniors in the program for the Tigers include Mariam Fahmy, Mason Fletcher, Alaina McBride, Cade Schapel, and Trinity Wade.
