The Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team went weeks without getting a win this winter.
On top of that, the Pioneers have had some injuries and … well, the holiday break.
Due to Christmas being around the corner, Reserve, which has players from a number of states, was a bit short-handed since some of its players went home for the holidays.
No problem for WRA, though.
The Pioneers earned their second win in their last three games after skating to a 3-1 victory over Gahanna Lincoln at the Rough Rider Holiday Ice Hockey Tournament Saturday at Kent State University Ice Arena.
For the third straight game, Reserve (2-10) played with just six skaters. Nevertheless, WRA got a pair of goals from Sam Pinkerton and another tally from Jad Darwiche to earn a date in the tournament’s consolation game Sunday.
Ian Richardson, who injured his arm 20 seconds into Thursday’s 7-1 loss to Hudson, returned to the lineup and made an impact with two assists. Ray Bennett also had two assists for the Pioneers and Reserve goaltender Noah Goad made 37 saves.
