The Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team picked up its first win of the season Friday.

The Pioneers improved to 1-7 on the season after earning a 6-2 victory over Canfield at Deep Freeze Ice Rink in Youngstown.

With the win, Reserve improved to 1-2 in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League Blue North Division.

Jad Darwiche scored three times and Brendan Gallagher, Rocco Prolizo and Gavin Leigl scored once for WRA.

Goaltender Noah Goad finished with 37 saves for the Pioneers.

Reserve lost to Olentangy Berlin 2-1 at the Rough Rider Holiday Ice Hockey Tournament Saturday at Kent State University Ice Arena.

WRA had just six players on its roster. Darwiche scored the lone goal and Goad finished with 55 saves.
