They fought and scratched until the very end.

But the Greenmen fell short.

The Aurora boys basketball team dropped to 1-1 after losing to host Streetsboro 67-65 Tuesday.

Gabe Elsawy’s floater bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded. At one point, the Rockets (1-0) had a 40-19 lead when 6-foot-5 forward Bryce Vecchio, who led all scorers with 28 points, knocked down a 3-pointer.

The Greenmen came all the way back to tie the game at 55 when Ethan Hays drained a 3 with a little less than five minutes left.

However, Streetsboro scored the next seven points and did not surrender its advantage the rest of the way.

Aurora had chances to tie or take the lead on several possessions in the final minutes, but it couldn’t hit crucial shots down the stretch.

Devin Reese added 20 points for the Rockets, who made just 3-of-9 free throws.

Ethan Hays led the Greenmen with 24 points and Elsawy added 18 points, including four 3-pointers for Aurora, which had defeated Streetsboro in its last two regular-season meetings.
