Two years ago, Wooster Triway ended Tallmadge’s promising season in a winner-take-all match.
To make matters worse, the heartbreaking defeat took place on the Blue Devils’ home court.
The faces have changed and the rematch didn’t have quite as much at stake.
Nevertheless, Tallmadge got some sweet revenge against a former nemesis.
The fifth-seeded Blue Devils cruised to a 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 victory over the Titans Thursday. The Division II sectional title match took place on Tallmadge’s home floor, James O. Maddox Court.
With the win, the Blue Devils (18-5), who have won seven straight matches, earned a date with top-seeded Akron Coventry in a district semifinal contest next Tuesday at James O. Maddox Court.
Sydney Kirker had a stellar match for Tallmadge. She finished with 14 service points, including two aces, and 12 kills. Amelia Perdue contributed 17 assists and three blocks and Kelsie Horner finished with 14 digs in the back row for the Blue Devils. Ellie Kirker added two aces for Tallmadge.
Triway defeated Tallmadge in the 2017 Tallmadge district final.
