There will be no Northeast Ohio Field Hockey League trophy coming to Hudson Aurora Road this season.
The Hudson field hockey team’s response? So what.
The host Explorers cruised to a pair of convincing victories Saturday to conclude their regular season. Hudson earned a 4-0 win over Toledo Maumee Valley Country Day and a lopsided 9-0 victory over Ottawa Hills at Scott Malson Field.
With the wins, the 2018 league champion Explorers ended their regular season with a 12-4 record. Hudson finished 11-1 in the NEOFHL.
Shaker Heights, which defeated the Explorers 2-0 earlier in the season, finished 12-0 in the NEOFHL after cruising past Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown 5-1 Friday.
Hanna Killeen scored twice and Marita Johnson had one goal and one assist against the Hawks. Adeline Judson also scored and Katherine Moloney added an assist.
Hudson had a 13-0 advantage in shots on goal and a 16-4 edge in penalty corners.
Against the Green Bears, Reilly Timko and Reese Stiller each finished with two goals and two assists.
Brooke Buchanan had a goal and an assist and Killeen, Kaci Ramlow, Ashley Root and Jamison Cart also scored once for the Explorers. Judson and Faith Donatelli each had two assists.
Hudson had a commanding 37-0 advantage in shots on goal and a 14-0 edge in penalty corners.
"The girls played possession ball with good communication and stick-to-stick passing to stretch the field," Explorers’ second-year head coach Louise Knox said. "We were aggressive inside the 25-yard line and we worked together to score and recover on defense."
