The Tallmadge boys golf team’s season came to an end Tuesday in Division I sectional play.

The Blue Devils finished 10th with a score of 370 at Barberton Brookside Country Club in Norton.

Akron Archbishop Hoban easily won the 17-team competition with a score of 292. Also advancing to district play were Medina (312), Highland (313) and Brunswick (328).

"We said at the start that this season would be a process, due to the almost total turnover from last season," Blue Devils head coach Jon Shomo said. "It certainly was that. One step up and two steps back at times.

"However, we did improve from start to finish. These guys are great representatives of our team, our school and our community."

The Hornets’ Cooper Hrabak topped 84 other golfers to win the competition. He shot a 69 to win by two strokes.

Junior Darin Hudak led Tallmadge with a 79, which was good for a four-way tie for 15th place.

"Obviously, Darin is a special talent and he had a record-breaking season," Shomo said. "As a coach, you always want your best player to be someone with character who leads the others. Darin fits that to a T."

Freshman Ty Kester was next for the Blue Devils with a 92. Rounding out the team score for Tallmadge were junior Christian Rutan (95) and sophomore Logan Phillips (103).

"We have already spoken to some of the guys about what needs to happen for us to be markedly better in 2020," Shomo said. "More will be said about that at our postseason recognition night. A lot of spots are going to be up for grabs in early August and we will see who is willing to put in the time and effort to make that improvement a reality."
