For what seems like forever, the Hudson girls tennis team has had a knack for getting at least one player to the district competition.
Oftentimes, there have been multiple Explorers.
On Wednesday, Hudson continued both trends.
Junior Laura Nijhuis and sophomore Sunny Fan qualified for district play Wednesday during a Division I sectional competition at Mayfield Village Racquet Club.
Nijhuis, the No. 2 seed in Bracket C, defeated Willoughby South’s Loren Jevnikar 6-2, 6-1 in her quarterfinal match and Warren Howland’s Kate Li 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals. Nijhuis is set to play
Painesville Riverside’s Angelica Ross in the final.
Fan defeated Solon’s Eliana Chelnick 6-0, 6-0 in her quarterfinal match before losing to Ross 6-1, 6-0 in her semifinal match. Fan is scheduled to play Li in the consolation final.
Both matches are set to take place Thursday at Solon Community Park. Play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Nijhuis and Fan are set to compete at a district tournament Oct. 10 and 12 at Springside Racquet and Fitness Club in Akron.
