The Hudson boys golf team didn’t get the prize it wanted during the regular season.
The Explorers sure got a nice consolation prize to start the postseason, though.
Hudson captured a Division I sectional title, thanks to their performance Wednesday at Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna.
The Explorers won the 17-team competition with a 301. Also qualifying were Walsh Jesuit (304), Stow-Munroe Falls (319) and Kent Roosevelt (325).
The Bulldogs won three of the four Suburban League National Conference tournaments during the regular season. Hudson won one of those tournaments and was the runner-up in the other three competitions.
But that’s history now. The Explorers won their first sectional title since 2014. District play is scheduled for next Monday at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley. Hudson is set to tee off at 10:30 a.m. The Explorers will be making their seventh straight appearance in district play.
"The boys did a great job," Hudson head coach Dave Kurtz said. "For the most part, we avoided making the big mistakes. We took our medicine when in trouble and trusted our short game to save strokes."
Sophomore Coop Pamer, who has been the Explorers’ top golfer throughout the season, earned medalist honors with a 70. A total of 82 golfers participated.
Senior Burke Villenauve was next for Hudson as he finished in a tie for seventh with a 76. Ben Basta finished in a tie for ninth with a 77 and Erik Block, who was the medalist at the final Suburban League tournament, finished in a tie for 11th with a 78.
