The Hudson girls golf team’s stellar season came to an end Wednesday.

The Explorers finished sixth with a score of 356 at a 17-team Division I sectional tournament Wednesday at Fox Den Golf Course in Stow.

Hudson missed qualifying by five strokes. Solon edged out Stow-Munroe Falls (328-329) to win the title. Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown (338) and Walsh Jesuit (351) also advanced to district play.

Despite falling short, Explorers’ first-year head coach Bobby Bolin had nothing but praise for his players.

"I’ve had so much fun coaching this group and have looked forward to every match, every tournament and practice throughout the year," he said. "We exceeded my expectations by finishing second in the [Suburban League National] conference and going 7-3 in matches, including two wins against teams that probably had more talent than us."

Both Tallmadge’s Lizzie Bickar and Solon’s Sandy Deng shot a 77 to finish in a tie for first place.

Senior Emily Dunne led Hudson with a 15th-place score of 84. Rounding out the top four for the Explorers were seniors Sarah Hinkle (tied for 23rd, 88) and Lilly Hess (tied for 30th, 91) and sophomore Delaney DiGeronimo (tied for 37th, 93).

"Our seniors were terrific leaders and are going to do great things," Bolin said. "I am proud of the way our girls improved throughout the season. We played our best golf at the end of the year and shot our best [18-hole] score of the season at sectionals.

"Overall, I’m very happy about how the season went and excited to continue to move the program in a good direction. We have a lot of potential to do great things over the next few years."
