Aurora tennis player Dottie Horvat advanced to the quarterfinals of Division I sectional play Tuesday at the Solon Community Tennis Courts.

Horvat defeated Hudson’s Emma Hall (7-5, 7-6, 7-5 in the tiebreaker), Lyndhurst Brush’s Lexi Kumar (6-1, 6-0) and Cleveland South’s Ritika Chakrabory 6-1, 6-0 in Bracket A.

Horvat is scheduled to play top-seeded Angelica Ross of Painesville Riverside in her quarterfinal match. Sectional play is set to continue today at Mayfield Village Racquet Club. Play is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.

Norah O’Callaghan was one win away from joining Horvat in the quarterfinals.

Playing in Bracket C, O’Callaghan defeated Cleveland Heights’ Sophia Mita 6-2, 6-0 and Brush’s Jessyka Camandillo 6-1, 6-3.

However, O’Callaghan lost to Willoughby South’s Loren Jevnikar 6-0, 6-1 in her third match.

Juliana Malinowski finished 1-1 in Bracket B. She defeated Twinsburg’s Aarushi Singh 6-3, 6-1 in her first match and lost to Hudson’s Sunny Fan 6-2, 6-0 in her second match.

Two doubles teams also participated for the Greenmen.

The duo of Diana Abbass and Krista Guerini defeated Willoughby South’s Gigi Crockett-Tomasio and Shayna Patel 6-4, 6-1 in their first match. They lost to the second-seeded Solon pair of Maggie Young and Niya Fried 6-0, 6-0 in their second match.

The team of Quincy Bizjak and Olivia French lost their first match to Hudson’s pair of Samantha Sigler and Emi Uijtewaal 6-2, 6-2.
