The Aurora girls golf team finished ninth with a score of 378 at a 17-team Division I sectional tournament in Fox Den Golf Course in Stow.

Solon edged out Stow-Munroe Falls (328-329) to win the title. Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown (338) and Walsh Jesuit (351) also advanced to district play.

Both Tallmadge’s Lizzie Bickar and Solon’s Sandy Deng shot a 77 to finish in a tie for first place.

Seniors Olivia Traci and Molly Russell and sophomore Anjali Mishra finished in a five-way tie for 40th. All three players shot a 94 to lead the Greenmen.

Sophomore Emily Pierce finished in a tie for 47th with a score of 96.

"We went into sectionals with the goal of playing our some of our best golf when it mattered most," Aurora head coach Noah Goodman said. "Although we didn't make it out, we did have one of our better rounds of the season, finishing ahead of some teams that beat us earlier.

"It was almost a 40-stroke improvement from a tournament a few weeks earlier. The girls played hard until the last shot and showed some great mental toughness. We didn't let one shot or hole derail us.

"Our sectional ended up being one of the most difficult in the state. Scores that would have contended for the win didn't even qualify this year. It was great to be a part of something like that and still hold our own. I

"'m very proud of our seniors, Olivia Traci, Olivia Vagasky and Molly Russell who have done so much for our program. Anjali Mishra and Emliy Pierce will be anchoring this team for the next few years and have already shown they can compete. While we didn't finish were we wanted, we can keep our heads held high with our effort."
