The Aurora boys soccer team will most likely need help if its wants a piece of the Suburban League American Conference championship.
The host Greenmen dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference after losing a 2-1 decision to Kent Roosevelt Tuesday at Veterans Stadium.
The Rough Riders scored their first goal early in the game when the ball deflected off an Aurora defender’s back. Roosevelt scored its other goal in the second half on a ball that bounced around in the Greenmen’s penalty box.
Aurora dominated the play the final 25 minutes and got its only goal from Jimmy Miller. Ben Gavie was credited with the assist.
"Their goalkeeper was very aggressive and came out and got most of our through balls in behind the defense," Greenmen head coach Jason Bibza said. "We had several great opportunities, but we just couldn't score.
"We hit the post and the crossbar, but just not the back of the net. I wish we had five more minutes to play because we were creating lots of opportunities.
"In soccer, you don't get points for great possession or chances, you have to score. If we can start converting opportunities into goals, we could have a very exciting postseason."
