The Tallmadge boys golf team finished 18th with a 381 at the 2019 General Cup Tournament Monday at Wooster Country Club.

New Albany won the competition with a 306 and Brunswick edged Sugarcreek Garaway on a fifth-score tiebreaker to finish second. Both teams shot a score of 317.

Darin Hudak led the Blue Devils with a fourth-place tying 74. Ty Kester was next for Tallmadge with a 98 and Logan Phillips added a 103. Christian Rutan rounded out the Blue Devils’ team score with a 106.

"We struggled but gave a good effort in a great tournament where the field resembles a district tournament," Tallmadge head coach Jon Shomo said. "Putting was improved from last time out despite the very fast and sloped greens. We only had one player that had ever been there before and it showed.

"Darin played very well, hitting 15 of 18 greens in regulation. If not for an uncharacteristic four-putt on the ninth hole, he could have been right there. He still had a very good score, one of the four or five best we've had there in my 16 Wooster coaching appearances. We need more short iron/chipping skill, which will come with time."
