The Aurora boys soccer team was champing at the bit to play a perennial Suburban League American Conference power.
The Greenmen got their chance Thursday at Veterans Stadium. Unfortunately, they’re still trying to figure out what went wrong.
Aurora dropped to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference after losing to the Indians 6-1.
Let’s just say the final score was very deceptive. The Greenmen had plenty of chances that didn’t go their way. They also made some critical mistakes that proved costly.
"I know it sounds strange when you lose 6-1, but we should have beat them," Aurora head coach Jason Bibza said. "We made some mistakes in the back and gave them two goals right before the half."
Alex Bibza scored the lone goal for the Greenmen. Copley had a 15-8 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. Aurora goalkeeper Ethan Hoff made 10 saves in the nets.
"We didn’t play badly," Coach Bibza said. "We were right there with them. We made a couple of sloppy plays that gave them chances. We need to clean things up and convert our chances."
