The Aurora volleyball team picked up its first conference win Tuesday.

The Greenmen improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Suburban League American Conference after earning a 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 victory over host Kent Roosevelt. It was Aurora’s second straight win.

Alas, there was some unfortunate news despite the Greenmen’s win. Jordan Miller is expected to miss an extended period of time due to a leg injury. Fortunately for Aurora, freshman Mia Devine did an admirable job in her first varsity start.

"It seems that when it rains it pours," Greenmen head coach Tyler Price said. "No one was going to feel sorry for us and we weren’t going to ask why this is happening to us. Without practice, we had to adjust on the fly.

"We had a new lineup and it worked out well. It is a daunting task to play JV [junior varsity] as a freshman, but we had to have Mia play varsity as a freshman and start, as well. She played well and was able to contribute points with kills and blocks."

Kinze McWhorter led Aurora with 14 digs, 11 kills, nine service points, including four aces, and four blocks. Lauren Vonderhaar had 12 kills and Brooke Fishback had 39 assists for the Greenmen. Maria Parks added 10 digs for Aurora.
