Last year, Stow-Munroe Falls football suffered a 31-7 rout at the hands of Mentor Lake Catholic in the opening game of the Tom Phillips era.
On Friday, Phillips and his charges got their revenge on the Cougars at Bulldog Stadium.
Stow took a 14-3 lead at halftime and held on for a 21-13 win over Lake Catholic.
Running back Jack Bryden opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Following a Lake Catholic field goal, running back Mykal Azar scored with three minutes to go in the second quarter to make it 14-3.
Stow then put some distance between themselves and the Cougars when quarterback Owen Bainbridge hit Justin Weightman with a 69-yard bomb for a touchdown midway through the third quarter to make it 20-6.
Stow will travel to face Barberton next Friday at 7 p.m.
