They went toe-to-toe with the state champion for a decent amount of time.
Unfortunately, the Explorers couldn't stop Columbus Academy after the break.
Thanks to three second-half goals, the Vikings earned a 3-0 victory over host Hudson Saturday at Scott Malson Field.
Columbus Academy, which is located in Gahanna and has won 11 state championships, had a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-2 edge in penalty corners.
Explorers' goaltender Sadie Mrakuzic finished with 12 saves. Hudson, which got a defensive save from Jamison Cart, dropped to 2-1 on the season.
"It was a great game," Explorers head coach Louise Knox said. "It's competition we live for. They played very well. We have been working on sharpening our tools in our toolbox.
"It told us what we need to work on and where we need to set our goals, in the sense of game objectives, communication and the possession game."
