Stow-Munroe Falls High School is set to have an Ohio High School Athletic Association club ice hockey team this winter.

The team currently has 14 players. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play their home games at Kent State University Ice Arena. Practices also are set to take place at Kent State.

The team’s head coach is Ryan Schelien, who played college hockey at Ohio University in Athens. His assistant coach is Jeff Napieralski, who played collegiately at Kent State.

Chris Hricik will be the team manager and handle the off-ice aspects of the team, including scheduling.

The team plans to OHSAA Blue and White division teams as well as some junior varsity teams from the Red Division. Stow is planning to play six to 10 home games and six to 10 away games.

The team will be self-funded and in order to reduce per player cost, the Bulldogs have participated in mulch mania the last two years and had a dine-to-donate fundraiser at El Campesino.

Stow also is selling inaugural season pucks for $7 and jerseys for $95 and are currently looking for some corporate sponsors to also aid the team in fundraising efforts.

The season is set to run from November through February.
