On July 13, The Haley Hopkins Memorial Soccer Showcase opened with the boys games, featuring Stow, Cuyahoga Falls, Firestone and Wadsworth with a total of six games. The early evening games showcased Stow-Munroe Falls’ lighted fields, with junior games at Bulldog Stadium and varsity games at the Stow Soccer Stadium.
This is the third year for the Haley Hopkins Memorial Soccer Showcase. The girls teams will play their tournaments July 26 and 27. The event is named in memory of Haley Hopkins, a Bulldog goalkeeper from 2009-12 who was killed by a drunk driver in 2015.
The showcase serves as a fundraiser for for the "Light Up The Field" campaign at the Stow Soccer Stadium. Funds raised from the two weekends will go towards the campaign to defray the cost of the lighting project.
At the Hopkins Showcase, Stow boys varsity shut out all three of its crosstown rivals. Stow got a 2-0 win vs. Firestone with goals from Bryce Danus and Tristan Mattson, a 4-0 win over Wadsworth with goals from Mattson, Niles Spann, Travis Shrout and Josh Colvis and a 1-0 win over Cuyahoga Falls with a goal from Mattson.
On July 14, the Stow boys played at the 17th Perrysburg Pete Raffa Memorial Soccer Tournament. Stow went 1-1-1 at Perrysburg, including a draw against Whitehouse Anthony Wayne, a loss to Toledo St John’s Jesuit and a 3-0 win over Springfield with goals from Mattson, Shrout and Tyler Whited.
Stow will play at the Canton-Akron Soccer Friendlies July 19 and 20 at the Copley Road Fields in Akron, followed by a trip to the Adidas National Soccer Showcase July 26 to 28 in Strongsville.
The Bulldog boys preseason opens with trip to Aurora Aug. 5 with varsity start time at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs also host Olmsted Falls Aug. 9, travel to Archbishop Hoban Aug. 10 and travel to Anthony Wayne Aug. 13.
Stow’s regular season will open with a trip to Uniontown Lake High School Aug. 17 at 3 p.m.

The Stow Goal Club is looking for regular-season game sponsorships. The club’s annual yard sale in front of the high school will be Aug. 3. Proceeds from fundraisers go to the ongoing improvements, lights and maintenance of the Stow Soccer Stadium.
