The Hudson boys tennis team has made it a habit to send multiple players to district play over the years.

Unfortunately, just one Explorer earned an invitation this year.

Senior Harrsha Congivaram, who has played first singles the last two years, advanced after defeating Copley’s Holden Schmid 6-4, 6-3 in an Akron/Medina Division I sectional quarterfinal match Thursday at Springside Racquet & Fitness Tennis Club in Akron.

Congivaram, the fourth seed, is scheduled to play top-seeded Marco Nesic of Twinsburg in the semifinals Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Congivaram is set to compete in district play May 16 (9 a.m.) and 18 (8:30 a.m.) at Springside.

Hudson’s doubles team, on the other hand, suffered a heartbreaking ending to its season.

The third-seeded team of Rob Tobin and Spencer Rodgers lost to Wadsworth’s TJ Lockwood and Noah Porter 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in their quarterfinal match.
