The Hudson boys volleyball team’s hot start continued.
The host Explorers improved to 3-0 in 2019 after earning a 24-26, 25-12, 25-16, 25-20 victory over Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph Thursday at Ray "Buck" Hyser Gymnasium.
Senior middle blocker Shane Chilcott had a huge night for Hudson. He had 31 service attempts and finished with nine aces and no errors.
Chilcott also had seven kills and two blocks.
Junior outside hitter Michael Meehan did it all for the Explorers as he had nine kills and just one error for a .471 hitting percentage. He also had three aces, 27 passes for a 2.9 passer rating and 11 digs.
"Michael put together a truly complete performance, stuffing the stat sheet and coming up with a number of clutch plays," Hudson head coach Larry Meehan said.
Matt Gentry was his usual menacing self in the front row with 16 kills for .351 hitting percentage, six aces, three blocks, six digs and 16 passes for a 2.8 rating.
Also faring well for the Explorers were senior libero Aidan L’Hommedieu (39 pass attempts with a 2.65 rating and seven digs), junior middle blocker Jack Torrence (seven kills and one error for a .300 hitting percentage to go along with seven blocks), senior right-side hitter Jacob Gray (three kills and one block), senior right-side hitter/setter Luke Karnofel (five kills, 19 assists and two blocks) and sophomore setter Mitch Adkins (17 assists and two aces).
"We had to battle a number of self-inflicted errors in the early going, but we came together and played well," Coach Meehan said.
