They braved a blizzard and came home with a trophy.

While most Hudson residents were bundled up inside during the snowstorm that hit Northeastern Ohio on Jan. 19 and 20, members of the Hudson Explorers Aquatic Team hit the road to participate in the Jim Scullion Age Group Showdown at Lakewood High School.

It proved a worthwhile endeavor, as the Explorers came home with a first-place trophy for their efforts.

A trio of HEAT swimmers came away with their age group’s high-point award, given to the swimmer in his or her age group who scores the most points over the course of the competition.

Gigi Falke, 10, won the award in the age 10-and-younger girls division; 12-year-old Alaina Pizarro took home top honors for the 11-12-year-old girls; and 14-year-old Roman Sawicki earned the award for 13-14-year-old boys.

Pizarro also walked away from the weekend with a team record. She joined Maya Metzler, Sara Baylor and Ava Sawicki in setting a HEAT record in the 11-12-year-old girls’ 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4 minutes, 28.92 seconds.

In addition, the following HEAT swimmers earned top-eight finishes in individual events and top-3 finishes in relay events.
