The Aurora ice hockey squad cruised to a lopsided 12-2 victory over Mayfield 12-2 Saturday at The Pond in Chagrin Falls.

With the win, the Greenmen improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League Blue North Division.

Aurora dominated the game from the drop of the puck, leading 4-1 after one period, and tallying eight more goals in the second period to end the game early after 30 minutes by a 10-goal mercy rule.

Sophomore Cameron Mullin led the way for the Greenmen with two goals and six points. Junior Jack McElwee had five points, senior Jack Pfiffner and junior Patrick Murray each had four points and freshman Mike Mancine had three points.

Sophomore Alice Hesmondhalgh tallied her first career goal and junior Adam Hicks, sophomore David Brandes and freshman Nathan Funk rounded out the score sheet with one assist apiece.

Senior Jordan Smith made eight saves in net for Aurora and sophomore Nolan Sullivan also made his first career appearance in goal for the Greenmen, adding one save in relief of Smith.

Kaden Jeppe scored both goals for Mayfield, which fell to 1-1 in the Blue North Division and 1-4 overall.

"It was obviously a big win," Aurora head coach John Sheridan said. "We were able to get a lot of players into the game and everyone contributed to the win.

"We’re happy to be 2-0 in the division so far and are going to work hard in practice this week to prepare for another division rival in Lakewood next weekend."
