The members of the Western Reserve Academy girls cross country team knew full well that Saturday would be their last meet of the season.

Let’s just say the Pioneers didn’t go out with a whimper.

Reserve captured first place with 51 points at the seven-team Sim Earich Invitational at Trumbull County Fairgrounds in Cortland.

Cortland Maplewood took second with 70 points and East Palestine captured third with 75 points.

Lordstown’s Jessica Wilk won the race with a time of 20 minutes, 8.26 seconds. A total of 72 runners competed.

All five of WRA’s runners finished in the top 17. Leading the way was senior co-captain Maggie Corl, who is a Hudson resident. Corl placed fifth in 21:38.28.

Right behind Corl was junior teammate JJ Je, who finished sixth in 22:06.97.

Rounding out the top five for the Pioneers were senior co-captain Leila Darwiche (14th, 22:53.15), sophomore Joy Tian (15th, 23:01.3) and junior Clara Fu (17th, 23:15.46).
